HE SAPA LANDBACK
Goal: The return of all the Public Lands in the Black Hills Back to the Lakota through organizing and Advocacy in support of the Federally recognized Lakota tribes and treaty councils.
The He Sapa LandBack Campaign is a movement to return Indigenous lands to Indigenous hands, specifically, to return He Sapa (the Black Hills) to the Oceti Sakowin, who have called these sacred lands home since time immemorial. Returning He Sapa to the Oceti Sakowin would be a meaningful step toward the U.S. government rectifying its historical injustices, including its violations of the 1851 and 1868 Fort Laramie Treaties. The He Sapa Landback campaign is currently supporting the efforts to return federal public lands to the Oceti Sakowin. Under the stewardship of the Oceti Sakowin, He Sapaās lands and waters would be protected for all people and for generations to come.
