THE EFFECTS OF OVERTURNING ROE V. WADE THROUGH AN INDIGENOUS LENS

On Indigenous lands in the so-called United States, we are witnessing the continued overstepping and violation of human rights with the U.S. Supreme Courtā€™s reversal of civil protections we have over our bodies. Indigenous Peoples and our bodies are among the most historically exploited on the planet, and our natural, customary laws have been violated by colonization for hundreds of years.

THE RIGHT OF RETURN IS LANDBACK

When questioning the problems around our communities, Indigenous youth are often told, ā€œitā€™s a complicated issueā€. We see our grandparentsā€™ houses with no electricity or running water while transmission lines run overhead and water lines supply nearby resource extraction projects.

DEMILITARIZATION IS DECOLONIZATION

Warriors are not what you think of as warriors. The warrior is not someone who fights, because no one has the right to take another life. The warrior, for us, is one who sacrifices himself for the good of others. His task is to take care of the elderly, the defenseless, those who cannot provide for themselves, and above all, the children, the future of humanity.
