Federal Grant Writer – NDN Holdings LLC

Job Summary

Reporting to and in partnership with the NDN Holdings Managing Director, the Federal Grant Writer will perform opportunity research and lead federal application development by writing, formatting, and submitting the highest quality grant proposals to federal funding agencies. They will steward relevant contacts within federal government programs to ensure successful partnerships with federal granting agencies.

The Position

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducting research of federal grant opportunities that align with NDN Collective programming and place-based projects.
  • Building relationships and soliciting guidance from federal agencies for possible grant opportunities.
  • Writing high-quality grant proposals, applications, reports, and supporting documents in partnership with, and under the direction of the NDN Holdings Managing Director. 
  • Co-managing proposal processes and tracking of grants with the NDN Holdings team, the President’s Office, and other Team Leads.
  • Monitoring applications, reporting timelines, and communicating with team members to ensure that funder deadlines and requirements are met.
  • Initiating, developing, and maintaining working partnerships with contact personnel related to federal contracts.
  • Overseeing grants through the full funding cycle, from prospective research to application through the award term, all reporting, and finally closing the grant out.
  • Working closely with the NDN Holdings team to contribute to fundraising strategies and ensure that annual goals are met.
  • Performing other duties as required.

Who You Are

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors or Masters degree preferred, but relevant/equivalent experience will be considered
  • One to three years of demonstrated grant writing success within the nonprofit and/or government sectors
  • Development or accounting and budgeting experience with a nonprofit organization, preferably with an annual budget of over $10M.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and for Indigenous communities
  • Commitment to continuous improvement; open to learn from successes and failures
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, work flexibly when necessary, and with a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to excel in a remote workplace.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to create high-quality materials and develop complex communications projects
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state contract administration
  • Proficient with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite and experience with one or more fundraising softwares like Fluxx or Salesforce.
  • Strong project management skills
  • Must be a multi-tasker with a strong ability to work under pressure 
  • Strong team collaboration skills that helps to move projects forward in a fast-paced environment 
  • Strong interpersonal skills 
  • Outstanding research and analytical skills 
  • Excellent organizational skills while paying strict attention to detail
  • Knowledge of accounting systems such as QuickBooks.
