NDN Foundation offers an annual $1,000,000 discretionary award to an Indigenous-led organization to recognize, celebrate, and uplift exemplary models of Indigenous self-determination, innovation, and creativity and show what is possible when Indigenous Peoples are supported.  The funding pool for the Prize is a collaborative contribution by multiple Indigenous Nations, making this a unique and impacting example of Indigenous peoples funding Indigenous peoples.

Eligibility

This opportunity is open to organizations working in the defense, development, and/or decolonization of Indigenous people who meet the following criteria:

Regional

Organization in Canada, the United States, the Islands of Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Guam, and American Samoa, and Mexico.

Indigenous-led

100% of Board of Directors and 70% of staff are Indigenous people

Accountable

Demonstrated accountability to the community/communities served.

Have not previously won the NDN Prize (runners-up encouraged to re-apply)

Exemplary ability to defend, develop, and/or decolonize Native people

Exemplary ability to work across NDN interest areas of defend, develop, decolonize (strongest applicants will be working in all three)

Commitment to self-determination as demonstrated by an ability to determine and work towards their community’s top priorities.

Demonstrated ability to effectively utilize and/or leverage large, unrestricted grant

Commitment to self-determination as demonstrated by an ability to determine and work towards their community’s top priority

Demonstrated ability and exciting plan to effectively utilize and/or leverage an unrestricted $1,000,000 prize 

Alignment with NDN Collective’s cultural values and norms, including:

Indigenous self-determination

Equity and justice for all people and the planet
