SUMMARY:Know Your Rights Training: Cop Interactions
DESCRIPTION:PM Session \nFirst 40 to register will receive a free swag bag! \nNDN Collective invites Mni Luzahan community members to attend our FREE Know Your Rights Training. This Abolitionist training will be focused on cop interactions and give the community tools to use and feel empowered to invoke their constitutional rights when speaking to police. In Pennington County where NDN Collective is headquartered\, Native Americans make up 9% of the population yet we make up 62% of the jail population. These statistics are not coincidental and show a racial targeting of our people on our homelands. \nAttendees of the training will learn about the cannabis law discrepancies and nuances that exist between legality of marijuana on the Pine Ridge reservation and state law. We’ll also give you tips on what to do in cop interactions\, what to do in a search\, and how to leave the cop interaction safely. \nThe Lakota Nation Invitational is a beautiful gathering of our youth\, their families and supporters. Even though we are coming together in a beautiful way\, we know our people may be targeted by cops in unlawful stops while they are in Mni Luzuhan.  \nTraining will be held on Friday\, December 20th at The Monument and will be offered at two times:  \n10am-1 pm and 3-6 pm MT. \nThe first 40 people to register will receive a free swag bag! \nRegister online NOW! \n\nRVSP AM Session: ndnco.cc/kyrcitam \nRSVP PM Session: ndnco.cc/kyrcitpm \n\nShare this important training with your friends on social media\, send a text with this website to your relatives\, or email this website to your network because. . .  \n  \n“Knowledge is power and we want to give our relatives tools and information to protect themselves in these cop interactions.” – Bre Gibson\, Legal Coordinator.

SUMMARY:KYR Training: School Resource Officer
DESCRIPTION:As Indigenous Peoples\, we know and understand the importance of protecting our youth\, families\, and communities. They are our livelihood.\nTo protect our relatives in Rapid City\, NDN Collective is hosting a ‘Know Your Rights Training’ on Saturday\, Oct 12 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM MT at Holiday Inn. \n\nThis FREE training is meant to empower our youth and families. It’s an opportunity to learn how and when to invoke your rights to protect ourselves from School Resource Officers “SROs” at schools. In addition to learning what to look out for\, what questions to ask\, and what to document when you are speaking with or in the presence of “SROs.”\n\n“Our children are the most precious and vulnerable part of our community\,” said Bre Gibson\, NDN Collective Legal Coordinator. “We know from the most recent Department of Justice Report Findings that our Indigenous youth are also being targeted unfairly when it comes to police in schools. This Abolitionist training will give our families the tools they need to feel safe and help combat the school-to-prison pipeline tactics enacted by local SROs.”\n\nOur goal is to pass this important knowledge to our youth and families in our communities and to prevent our relatives from receiving criminal records.\nThis is our fourth training we have provided to the public\, with over 100 community members who have attended!\nWe are beyond thankful that we can provide these resources to our relatives and community.\n\nSign up and register today! The first 50 people who register will receive a free swag bag. \n Register NOW: ndnco.cc/kyrf \n\nDo you have additional questions about the training? \n Please contact Bre Gibson for more information\n\n#KYR #KnowYourRight #KYRTraining #FreeTraining #NDNCollective
