Director of Strategic Partnerships

Location: Remote with periodic travel to NDN HQ Rapid City, SD and abroad

Job Summary

Reporting to NDN Collective’s President & CEO, the Director of Strategic Partnerships will act as a liaison to develop, manage, and execute NDN Collective’s strategies for creating, negotiating, and maintaining mutually beneficial partnerships that will support NDN’s current and future programming and campaigns. They will work closely with the President’s Office and other cross-functional teams to identify new opportunities to expand NDN Collective’s reach and impact. The Director of Strategic Partnerships will also support and manage the President’s Office Special Initiatives by cultivating and overseeing a portfolio of grantee-partners and exploring opportunities for resourcing other initiatives and notable projects.

The Position

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Partnerships

  • Manages and sustains all existing external partnerships and assesses which new partnerships NDN Collective should consider and collaborate with.
  • Educates selected and impactful networks about NDN Collective and creates relationships and strategic partnerships on behalf of the Organization, serving as the main point of contact for questions, support, and sign-on letters. 
  • Sustains healthy relationships with strategic partners by remaining responsible and accountable to partners 
  • Holds participants accountable according to their contracts and partnership agreements
  • Determines which member(s) of NDN Collective’s staff should assist and/or represent the Organization in various partnerships as well as cross-sectional spaces. 
  • Tracks and reports biweekly partnership development metrics to NDN Team Leads, Research & Evaluation, and other staff as needed.

President’s Office Special Initiatives

  • Supports the planning and implementation of NDN strategy through the Office of the President, including the engagement of current and prospective community partners across Turtle Island, including regions of strategic focus.
  • Serves as the President’s Office primary liaison for all current  community partners-grantees, and assists with the recruitment, outreach, power building, and relationship management of new community partner-grantees. 
  • Responsible for  reviewing concept proposals, budgets, and project reports and makes recommendations for funding decisions and allocations.
  • Co-creates resource notification and partnership letters to community partners-grantees and handles general correspondence. 
  • Analyzes and utilizes data for continuous improvement and refinement of programs and processes.
  • Supports the grantmaking process through effective utilization of NDN’s internal systems and procedures.
  • Works with the Foundation and Research & Evaluation teams to assess the outcomes and impact of President’s Office partnerships and programs. 
  • Creates and maintains critical internal and external relationships and processes to support/ensure strategic partnerships and grantee-partner success within the President’s Office. 
  • Other duties assigned.

Who You Are

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree with 4-6 years of relevant experience 
  • Prior demonstrated success in grantmaking with preferred nonprofits, governmental agency, or other Tribal entities preferred 
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving the public in a mission-driven organization 
  • Demonstrated ability to assess qualitative and quantitative outcome data and to provide coaching and technical assistance to grantees to help them achieve exemplary results

Knowledge and Skills

  • Outstanding interpersonal and partnership development skills 
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, MS Office Suite, and grants management systems preferred with the ability to learn other systems, software, programs, and applications.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills and strong presentation skills 
  • As a strategic thinker and planner is able to conceptualize, lead, and execute complex projects and effectively convey their impact to various audiences 
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and objectives while working in a fast-paced environment
  • Relationship Builder and Collaborator as part of a team to move projects forward in a timely manner with a high level of success
  • Outstanding research and analytical skills with keen attention to detail 
  • Strong comprehensive understanding of nonprofit work and powerbuilding specifically within the realm of Indigenous communities  
  • Successful in persuasive writing with experience developing complex communications projects
  • Working knowledge/fluency in Spanish and/or French is a preferred qualification for this position.
  • Appreciation of and motivation to advance the NDN Collective mission, vision, and Theory of Change.

This position is salaried, commensurate with experience, rated at a GS 15 ranging from $123,629 – $160,715. The total pay package includes a generous benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as a 401(k) retirement plan, a wellness program, personal leave, professional development, and more.
