Job Summary:                               
Reporting to Michelle Fox, NDN Partners Managing Director, the Business Development Officer is responsible for all aspects of managing project development for NDN Partners, the business development arm of NDN Collective. The Business Development Officer, with guidance from the Managing Director, also plays a key role in new business acquisition and leads multiple activities such as customer relations, business process activities and managing complex requirements through three key functions:

Positioning – Work within the NDN ecosystem to develop an NDN Partners growth strategy focused both on financial gain and customer satisfaction.  This responsibility includes tracking and preparing for upcoming bids and supporting the development of winning partnerships.

Systems – Strengthen and maintain the business processes that support the growth of NDN Partners. Plans, organizes, monitors, manages, and evaluates project activities.

Proposal Process – Support the development proposals in collaboration with the NDN ecosystem from start to finish.  The business development officer negotiates with key stakeholders to achieve financial and strategic goals for the company.

NDN Collective is the most ambitious, systemic effort to empower Indigenous Peoples in the history of philanthropy. We are creating a paradigm change in how society invests in Indigenous Peoples by dramatically scaling up investment and shifting decision-making power. THE POSITION

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and build long-term professional customer relationships with existing, new and potential clients. 
  • Lead project acquisition and development for transactions from signing of contract to close.
  • Identify and scale a long-term active pipeline, exploring both existing markets and targeting new market opportunities.
  • Work with the Managing Director to track the company’s financial performance against a plan, analyzing business performance and market conditions to create forecasts, and helping make tactical and strategic decisions by providing periodic reports.
  • Use innovative means to develop new sources of profitable business.
  • Take complete ownership of, develop and deliver exceptional documents and presentations, in line with NDN standards. 
  • Raise the company and business profile by representing NDN Partners at industry events, high level networking and promoting an image of professionalism at all times. 
  • Work requires considerable independent judgment and initiative in combining a broad scope of professional planning and economic development knowledge and sophisticated, analytical judgments in order to solve a variety of complex, technical problems. 
  • Ensure that the Managing Director is fully aware of all activities. 
  • Ensure that specialist functions i.e., Compliance Team are advised of any new potential business to ensure compliance.  
  • Maintain records and relevant contract documentation.
  • Support re-bids and variations for existing clients. 
  • Other duties as needed.


WHO YOU ARE

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (i.e. public health, health care management, international development, business administration, public policy, or equivalent experience in business development).
  • At least four (4) years of related experience is required, with at least two (2) years of business development preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proven sales/business development experience from a relevant background.
  • Experience of putting together exceptional quality sales documents.  
  • Experience of successfully delivering high level presentations. 
  • Experience of dealing with a range of people including site staff, suppliers and customers.  
  • Driven by targets and comfortable in a high-pressure sales environment. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be detail conscious and methodical in approach. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to manage complex processes and team relationships to ensure effective collaboration by various contributors to the process, including contributors from multiple offices/units and at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven client facing project management skills to influence and impact both internal and external stakeholders, while meeting client deadlines.
  • Excellent research, data analysis/synthesis, and presentation skills. Experience in organizing and managing and disseminating large and complex sets of business information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English required.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle the high stress environment of business development with grace and a sense of humor.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated good judgment and ability to prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously and work proactively.
  • Appreciation for the mission and vision of NDN Partners.
